English Foundation focuses on developing learners’ analytical, creative and critical thinking and communication skills in all language modes. It encourages learners to engage with texts from their contemporary world and with texts from Australian and other cultures. Such engagement helps learners develop a sense of themselves, their world and their place in it.

What the teacher says:

English Foundation 2 focuses on developing learners’ communication skills. English Foundation 2 is a pathway to a suite of Level 3 English courses such as English 3, English Studio 2/3, English Inquiry 2/3 or English Literature enabling Year 11 students to refine their writing skills and develop a strong understanding of multi modal texts before they enter Year 12. This course will benefit students who plan to undertake 2 or 3 pre-tertiary classes in Year 11.

English Inquiry 2 is designed for learners who wish to consolidate and develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of English, by making purposeful connections with transdisciplinary texts from English as the primary discipline and a range of other disciplines.

English Inquiry 2 gives students opportunities to develop their skills by exploring and understanding how all texts are related to different subjects like Humanities, Arts, Science and so on. Students look to create responses using questions and inquiries to develop their own ideas and understanding.

In Inquiry 2 there’s a lot of freedom with the creative parts of this class.

‘English Studio 2 is suited to learners who enjoy writing and wish to discover or develop skills and techniques to create compelling stories and authentic content for a range of publications. The course will provide learners with opportunities to experience writing in different forms for specific purposes, audiences and contexts. These include writing for young markets, script and screen writing and journalistic and persuasive writing.’

‘English Studio 2 focuses on the creation of written texts. A focus on developing quality writing, using print multimodal elements and exploring digital images, photographs, illustrations and graphics will key aspects of the course. This course will be of great value to students wishing to undertake English Studio 3 or other level 3 English courses in Year 12 as well as compliment creative arts subjects in year 11 or 12.’

English is a study of contemporary language, literacy, media and literature. It is designed to develop learners’ analytical, creative, critical thinking and communication skills in all language modes. English develops learners as proficient, articulate communicators of English by extending and refining their language, literacy and literature skills.

English 3 is the study of a variety of contemporary texts, such as novel, play and film, students consider how each composer seeks to position an audience. A focus on features such as language, imagery and symbolism allow students to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of English and how texts invite them to reflect on their world and to apply their own understanding and interpretation.

In English 3 you get a ‘roadmap’ of how to be successful and develop your written responses and continually develop your skills and understanding.

English 3 is working together to develop ideas and sharing your understanding with others. I liked the structure and application to the real world.

English Inquiry 3 is the transdisciplinary study of English through inquiry-based learning. The course focuses on the investigation of ideas and issues in texts from contemporary culture. It is designed for learners who would like to broaden and deepen their understanding and application of English. Learners develop their critical and creative thinking skills making purposeful connections between English and other disciplines.

English Inquiry 3 is a new course which aims to explore ideas and issues in the modern world. Developing an understanding of different opinions, attitudes, values and perspectives on social, national, or global issues in a variety of texts is a key aim of the course. Students will use an inquiry-based approach to develop their own ideas and understanding in creating texts.

What TASC says:

English Literature focuses on the study of literary texts, developing learners as independent, innovative and creative learners and thinkers who appreciate the aesthetic use of language, evaluate perspectives and evidence, and challenge ideas and interpretations.

What the teacher says:

English Literature 3 - focuses on the study of literary texts and historical movements students produce a range of analytical, reflective and creative responses, they also refine their perspectives and language use, to develop their knowledge. If you like reading, analysing and discussing historical and contemporary ideas, you will find this course interesting and rewarding.

Analysing Lit texts allowed me to develop my opinions and challenge my thinking & Lit provides answers to questions I don’t know how to ask.
